Kupwara attack

Attack by the suicide bombers of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad literally meaning the Army of Muhammad, in the wee hours resulted in the killing of three of our jawans including a Captain and five wounded one of them seriously. This is another instance of slackness on the part of our defence establishment. How come a unit stationed so close to the border and in an area that is vulnerable to the jihadis should be left without night vigil of the type desired. Secondly, the assailants must have made a reconnaissance of the area in advance and then took the risk of attacking at wee hours. This means they had full information that the unit is all asleep usually at that point of time. This leads us to infer that the assailants have a strong local link through whose instrumentality they have been able to launch surveillance in advance and define their strategic attack. We are not aware to what extent the local civilian administration and the police will cooperate with the army in identifying the conduits who had led the Pakistani armed jihadis to the target in Panzgam. Nevertheless, our army has o be alert each day, each hour and each minutes. Army officers have to plan on the ground and be prepared tor response.  We salute the martyrs who laid down their lives in Kupwara battle two days ago. They have done India a great service of sacrificing their lives for the security of the country.
