JAMMU, May 15: Congress leader Neeraj Kundan today interacted with residents of Kaku de Kothey in Arnia area, where local people strongly raised the long-pending issue of proprietary rights over allotted lands and demanded immediate justice.
During the meeting, locals narrated the continuous hardships they face due to the lack of full ownership rights on the lands allotted to the Displaced Persons (DPs). They stated that without clear proprietary rights, they encounter numerous difficulties in daily life, including access to bank loans, making improvements on the land, and securing their holdings. They alleged that their lands are frequently acquired by authorities without proper notice or adequate compensation, leaving families in distress and uncertainty.
Kundan, who hails from the area, assured the gathering that he considers this issue as his personal responsibility. “I am one of you and this matter is very close to my heart. I will fight this issue without any political angle. Even if I have to face batons, I will not back down. I will take the blows first,” he declared.
The local allottees have been consistently demanding full proprietary (ownership) rights over lands allotted to them decades ago. Many of these allotments relate to evacuee properties and alternate lands provided in lieu of earlier acquisitions, particularly under historical Government orders.
A large number of allottees in the Jammu region, especially in border areas like Arnia, were given possession of lands but were never granted complete ownership rights. This lack of ownership prevents them from using the land freely for agriculture, housing, or as collateral for financial needs.
In contrast, proprietary rights have been granted in several other categories of displaced persons in the past, but similar relief has not been extended uniformly to all genuine local allottees. They demand early regularization of all such allotted lands.
Kundan reiterated his firm commitment to take up this cause as a non-political, people-centric struggle. He appealed to the administration to resolve these long-pending grievances.
