Kundal inaugurates Kissan Mela

SAMBA, Mar 31: MLA Yash Paul Kundal today inaugurated a Kissan Mela – cum-Awareness Camp organized by Department of Agriculture at Utterbeni.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA stressed that agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and is the mainstay of State’s economy and there is a dire need to exploit the tremendous potential in agriculture and allied sectors in the State.
He further said that adequate promotion needs to be given to different schemes launched in rural development, agriculture and employment sectors so that those living in the rural areas are made aware of the benefits extended under various schemes.
Addressing the gathering, he asked them to take optimum benefit of the schemes, adding such Melas besides encouraging the youth for setting up their income generating units help in developing cordial relationship between the department and the local people. He called for a change in the mind set of the unemployed youth towards entrepreneurship to become job providers instead of job seekers.
He said that different Central and State Government schemes have been launched in the State for welfare of the people and now awareness drives should be organized to make people aware of these initiatives. He enjoined upon the officers and field agencies of the concerned department to ensure timely availability of quality seeds and fertilizers alongwith adequate irrigation facility for increasing agriculture production.
On spot instructions were issued to District Officers of Agriculture and line departments for creating awareness about the welfare schemes at the door steps of the farmers by organizing such awareness camps.
DDC Samba Mubarak Singh also spoke on the occasion and asked the farmers to come forward and take benefit of the welfare schemes being implemented by Agriculture and allied departments.
A prize distribution function was also organized by the department during the Kissan Mela in which the progressive farmers were felicitated by the MLA.
