Srinagar, Dec 25: The Kashmir Small Scale Industrial Association (KSSIA) today sought the formation of a High-Level Committee (HLC) for identifying and mitigating problems faced by the existing industrial enterprises in Kashmir.
The general members of KSSIA, the oldest association in the valley, met for a day under the leadership of Syed Fazal Illahi, the association’s president. During the meeting, the members brought up several issues that hinder the smooth operation of the current units.
Former FCIK Presidents who are currently serving on the Advisory Council were present when the issues were brought up.
The members made the point that the withdrawal of the government departments’ policy of buy and price preference for the local units had a greater impact on the decreased product market demand and reduced unit productivity to an all-time low.
The members expressed anguish that huge money on account of the supply of goods was held up with departments for months and years on one or the other pretext.
The members expressed apprehensions that the One Time Settlement Scheme launched by J&K Bank for NPAs between 15 lacs and 10 crores was unlikely to yield desired results unless and until it was backed and supported by a workable policy of the government for rehabilitation of sick industrial units.
While pinpointing the deficiencies in the industrial policy and confusion created by its guidelines and other circulars, the members also expressed their dissatisfaction over the pace and quality of the developmental works being executed by SICOP in the industrial estate.
Speaking on the occasion, President KSSIA endorsed the problems highlighted by members and urged the representatives of FCIK to take these up with appropriate authorities for their resolution.
Former Presidents of FCIK Mehraj ud Din Qureshi, Syed Shakeel Qalander, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Ashraf Mir assured the meeting of putting in the best efforts from the platform of the apex organisation for mitigation of issues and problems of existing units.
Earlier, the General Secretary of KSSIA Ghulam Mohiuddin conducted the business of the AGM according to its agenda. Finance Secretary Ghulam Mohammad presented the financial statement for approval. Secretary Syed Haamid Chashoo, Syed Omar Nazim, Daanish Manzoor Mattu, and Latief Ahmad assisted in conducting the meeting. The meeting also approved the constitution of an Election Committee for conducting fresh elections of the association under the chairmanship of Altaf Malik with Javaid Wani, Javid Zaffar, Shabir Ahmad and M.Yasin Khan as other members.
