JAMMU, Sept 3: Like other parts of the country, Krishan Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna) was celebrated with traditional religious fervor and gaiety across the Jammu region today.
All the temples in Jammu city and its outskirts were fully decorated with buntings and colorful flowers by the devotees befitting the occasion. The devotees kept fast during the day and participated in bhajan Kirtan in praise of Lord Krishna held in different temples and Ashrams of the city.
The main functions were held in Raghunath Temple Jammu where devotees started visiting from early in the morning and a big congregation was held during the night hours upto 12 pm the birth time of Lord Krishna. The crackers were busted at the time of Lord Krishna’s birth in various temples by the devotees. Besides, Pooja – Archana Samohik prayers were also held in temples and ashrams. After the culmination of the function the prashad was distributed among the devotees.
The function at Raghunath temple was organized by Dharmarth Trust Jammu and the devotees performed pooja in a traditional way amid ringing of quench shells.
Another function was held at Geeta Bhawan, Parade which was organized by Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) Jammu. The function started at 9 pm and culminated during mid night with the birth of Lord. A jhanki was also taken out in the Geeta Bhawan premises in connection with birth of Lord Krishna in the mid night. The devotees were singing Bhajan –Kirtan in praise of Lord Krishna upto late night hours.
Jhankis in connection with Janmashtami were also taken out in different areas of Jammu including Janipur, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, Muthi and Barnai in which a large number of devotees participated.
Besides, the Sri Krishna temples, the religious functions and Bhajan Kirtan to celebrate the Janamashtami up to late night hours were held in the temples of Purani Mandi, Ram Mandir Sector D, Sainik Colony, Shiv Mandir Sector G, Sainik Colony, Laxmi Narayan temple, Gandhi Nagar, Panch Mandir Channi, Durga Mandir, Shastri Nagar, Shiv Mandir Sector 3, Trikuta Nagar, Panch Mandir Sector 7, Trikuta Nagar, Shiv Temples, Canal road Jammu and Tawi bridge, Shri Krishna Mandir, Basant Nagar Janipur, Shri Krishna Temples, Dharmal, Barnai and Sarore, Bari Brahmana, Temples in Durga Nagar, Roop Nagar, Swaran Vihar, Baba Kailakh Nath Temple Thater Bantalab, Gosani Gund Ashram, Tumal Bohri, Shri Hari Kirtan Adiyatmik Jagrti Mission Jammu, temples in Bishnah, RS Pura, Marh, Kandoli Mata temple, Nagrota, Muthi, Rama Krishna Mission, Udaiwala Bohri, Kameshwar and other temples in Akhnoor. The Janamashtami was also celebrated in Swami Kumar Ji Geeta Satsangh Ashtam, Muthi. The Ashram celebrated its foundation day also today.
The two days function organized to commemorate Janmashtami concluded at Shiv Shakti Mandir, Sector-1, Pamposh Colony, Janipur, today.
The Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in a unique and grand style at ISCKON Temple Dream City Muthi where hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu and its outskirts participated from early in the morning. The day -long bhajan Kirtan was held in the temple premises by the devotees and a langer was also organized on the occasion.
Janmashtami festival was celebrated with fervor and gaiety at Udhampur. All the temples in the town were fully decorated and colorful functions were organized by devotees in the temple premises. The functions were held in Krishna temple of Aadarsh Colony, ISCKON Temple, Sheetla Mata Temple, Chabutra Bazar and Lord Krishna Temple in Pandav Mandir, Udhampur. A large number of devotees participated in these functions upto midnight.
In connection with celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami an impressive Shoba Yatra was taken in Ramban and Batote today. The Shoba yatra started from Raghunath Ji temple Ramban and after passing through various markets it later culminated in the temple premises. Before the Shoba yatra , pooja was performed by the devotees.
Shoba yatra was also taken out on the occasion of Janmashtami in Kishtwar town in which thousands of devotees drawn from different parts of the town participated. It started from main town and passed through various areas. Various Jhankis depicting different aspects of Lord Krishna’s life formed the part of Shoba yatra.
Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in Doda, Bhadarwah, Chenani, Ramnagar and other places.
Janmashtami was celebrated in Basholi in a traditional way where large number of devotees thronged the temples in the town. The main functions were held in Neelkant temple Basholi and the Radha Krishan temples of Hiranagar, Satnarayan Mandir Ward 9, Ward 10 Ramji Mandir, Kathua, Billawar and Bani and other towns.
In Samba district a grand function was held at Vijaypur where breaking down of pitchers was held in a traditional way. A large number of devotees participated in the function.
In Reasi a Shobha Yatra was taken out on the occasion of Janmashtami. The Shoba Yatra was organized by SDS Reasi which started from Chowk Chabutra and passed via main bazaar and culminated at Nai Basti Shiv Mandir.
An impressive Shoba Yatra was also taken out in Rajouri township which was organized through SDS Rajouri. It after passing by Main Bazaar, Div Morh, Bus Stand culminated at the same place. The Janmashtami was celebrated with great pomp and show in Poonch town, Sunderbani, Kalakote, Nowshera, Budhal and other places in Rajouri district.
The birthday of Lord Krishna was celebrated in the Tri-Murti Janipur Colony with religious fervour and gaiety. Hundreds drawn from different area of Janipur participated. The Mandir was fully decoarted and illuminated which also created attraction for the devotees.
