REASI, Jan 31 : Konkan Railways Corporation Limited has placed Rs 1.65 crore at the disposal of Deputy Commissioner Reasi for payment of liabilities of workers, labour, suppliers and service providers.
The Deputy Commissioner had earlier directed the KRCL to liquidate the bank guarantees and auction machinery of M/s Apex Encon Ltd which left the construction sites without payment of dues to local people engaged by the company. Action was initiated by the DC after complaints received from various deputations in October 2013 about the company abandoning the works and having left the site without payment of their wages and dues. The liability runs into more than Rs 3 crore.
Taking serious note of criminal act of Andhra based Apex Encon Ltd the district administration issued directions for lodging an FIR in the matter and also summoned the top officers of Apex Encon Ltd. KRCL, principal employer of Apex Encon, was directed to approach the company for making payments and to own responsibility for criminal act of Apex.
The DC appreciated the prompt response of Chief Engineer KRCL Nagendera for initiating the proceedings and ensuring payment of dues which will help thousands of labourers and small suppliers in district who helped construction of railway network. More than Rs 2 crore is being made available by KRCL in addition to Rs 1.65 kept at disposal of district administration.
A committee comprising Addl Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara, Dy Chief Engineer KRCL, Dy CE Apex Encon and representative of Northern Railways will verify the claims and reconcile the records and make payment to the labour, suppliers and service providers. The DC has further directed that disbursement will have to be made by the Apex Encon at its own under Central Labour laws with close supervision of the district administration.
