NEW DELHI, Aug 29: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) has reiterated its demand on abrogation of Article 370 granting special Constitutional status to J&K.
In its separate memorandums submitted to President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and Leader of Opposition, Sushma Sawaraj in Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader, L K Advani, it reiterated its demand regarding abrogation of Article 370.
The memorandums submitted by KPC chief, Kundan Kashmiri, said the Article 370 had a temporary provision in the Constitution and not permanent. The forces who want to take the State out of political and Constitutional ambit of India are demanding that this temporary provision should be made a permanent feature of the Constitution. The analysis of the Article has been based more on rhetoric and less on actual nature of Article, the memorandums added.
It said that Constitution empowers Parliament to abrogate the Article and it is high time for Government of India to take a decision in this regard as instead of doing any good to the State this Article has harmed the State’s interests and sowed the seeds of secessionism.
The memorandums said that the people of the State are still being misled by vested interests and exploited by giving a wrong interpretation of Article and it has led to many doubts among their minds. The abrogation of this controversial provision will lead to the total integration of the State with the rest of country, it added.
