Kotwal inspects progress on restoration works in Surinsar

JAMMU, Oct 24: The Commissioner Secretary PHE, I&FC Department Dr Pawan Kotwal had an extensive tour of Surinsar area to inspect the progress of restoration works against major damages due to recent unprecedented heavy rains & flash floods of September.
Besides this, he also inspected the ongoing works of Intake Structure pertaining to WSS Delinking of Surinsar lake at Dab Chilla, Superintending Engineer Urban Circle Jammu, Superintending Engineer, PHE Rural Circle Jammu, Executive Engineer, PHE Rural Division, Jammu and Executive Engineer, PHE Mechanical Rural & other officers of the Department accompanied him.
The scheme of Delinking of Surinsar lake is an important project being executed under STF. This scheme will delink the Surinsar lake in respect of supply of water & maintain the requisite dead storage which is very important from tourism point of view. The scheme is to provide the potable water to a design population of 30501 souls covering about 12 villages of Surinsar area.
Dr Kotwal inspected the progress of Intake Structure & directed for its early completion along with the protection works to Intake Structure. He also stressed to provide the adequate protection along the left side of the hill slope so as to protect the pump room building as well as Filtration Plant so that the unstable hill can be stabilized under SDRF. He also stressed to take into consideration the H.F.L. in all future designs of civil structures so that they can sustain the future floods of this quantum.
Further instructions were issued to all the officers to construct pump rooms and other allied structures with latest technology of prefabricated FRP sheets which are light to weight easy to handle & more workable. Besides the H.F.L. of the recent floods should be marked on important PHE installation & on banks of Rivers & Nallahs.
