Kokernag villages without electricity for one month

SRINAGAR, Jan 6: Four villages of Sagam block of Kokernag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district are without electricity for last one month as the Power Development Department has failed to fix a technical snag in the electricity transformer of the area.
The villages comprising of Panzagampora,  Wani Mohalla, Dobimohalla, and Magray Mohalla of Kokernag are in complete darkness for last one month with people accusing the Power Development Department of turning a blind eye to the issue. They said that these areas are without electricity because of the incompetent lineman that has been posted in their area.
“The transformer of the area is functional but the lineman is lame to detect the earth fault. We request the administration to kindly look into the matter,” a local said, adding they are facing extreme hardships due to non-availability of electricity in their area.
The residents said that the recent snowfall had added to their woes. “We were already suffering without electricity and the snowfall has made things worse for us as we are finding it difficult to tackle the challenges that snow has brought in,” another local said.
Meanwhile, electricity supply of several villages of Anantnag distrcit including Goplapora Mattan, Kadipora, Kehrebal,  Kanganhal Achabal, Telwani, Larnoo kokernag continue to remain snapped for the last three days due to snowfall.
The residents of Munawad village told Excelsior that they collected money to repair the electricity transformer of their area after Power Development Department failed to do so. “The employees of the PDD are missing from several days and that forced the locals to fund money,” a local said.
