SRINAGAR, Oct 21: A high level meeting was held today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Transport, Abdul Ghani Kohli to review the functioning of Motor Vehicle Department (MVD).
Mr. Kohli instructed the officers to work with more dedication and responsibility. He assured that all the demands of department would be fulfilled as early as possible.
Power Point Presentation was also given by the Motor Vehicle Department in which all details regarding revenue target, launching of online services of VAHAN and SARTHI, establishment of new weighing bridges, installation of GPS on vehicles, road safety awareness programmes, installation of fare meters in Auto Rickshaws, identification of land for ARTOs offices and formation of checking squads at district level were given.
Minister instructed the concerned officers to stop the illegal entries through link roads by the truckers near the Lower Munda, Toll Post. Minister also suggested to establish new Toll Post on Mughal road near Shopian. Officers were also asked to identify the land on new 4-lane National Highway near Qazigund for construction of new Toll Post.
It was informed that the Motor Vehicle Department has started implementing and affixing High Security Registration Number Plates on Motor Vehicles by engaging a private firm. It was also informed that more than 3.50 lakh old and new vehicles have been affixed HSRP up to April 2015. In the year of 2015-16 (ending September 2015) 62057 Commercial and Non-Commercial vehicles have been registered by the MVD.
It was also informed in the meeting that MVD has submitted a proposal to Administrative Department for construction of Regional Transport Office at Bemina, Srinagar.
Secretary Transport, Kifayat Rizvi, Special Secretary, Transport, Itrat Hussain Rafiqui, Joint Transport Commissioner, Narinder Singh, Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Shafkat lqbal, all ARTOs of Kashmir Division were attended the meetings and gave their suggestion regarding the revenue generation and other issues.
