LEH: Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli today concluded a weeklong tour to various areas of Leh and Kargil district.
These areas included Kargil, Diskit, Shey, Turtuk, Drass, Khalsi, Nobra and Hunder villages.
During the extensive tour, the Minister took stock of various developmental works under execution in Animal, Sheep and Fisheries sectors in the twin district of Leh and Kargil. The Minister asked the concerned officers to work with utmost dedication and speed up the pace of work on all ongoing developmental works under execution in these areas and complete them in a stipulated time frame.
The Minister also inaugurated various developmental works in these districts and asked the concerned to ensure that the benefits of these projects should be reach to maximum people. He also asked the Officers of Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department to gear up their respective field functionaries and conduct frequent field visits to their respective areas and aware general masses about the programmes and schemes of the Government. He also instructed them to ensure medicines and other first aid facilities in all Veterinary Centres of twin districts.
During the tour, several deputations met the Minister and put forth their individual and collective issues. These included up-gradation of Veterinary Centres, sanctioning of incentives for establishing of Fish Farm, Sheep and Goat Units. The Minster gave them a patient hearing and assured them that their genuine demands will be looked into. In some cases, Mr Kohli gave on the spot directions to the concerned for immediate redressal.
Interacting with the people at different places, the Minister said that the Government is committed to provide equitable development of all the three regions of the State. He said focused attention is given to develop the hilly and backward areas of the State with the aim to improve the living standard of the people living there.
During the visit to various areas in Kargil and Leh, the Minister was given warm well come by the people of these regions. Mr Kohli expressed satisfaction over the working of the Departments under his control. He, however, asked them to improve the working and come up to the expectations of the people.
The Minister had also inaugurated Disease Surveillance Center (DSC) and Geographic Information System (GIS) laboratory of the Sheep Husbandry Department. The center was first of its kind in the area and was a long pending demand of the people.
Mr Kohli also said that Rs 21 crore mega Project of Department of Industries and Commerce has also been sanctioned by Central Government which would help Pashmina industry to grow, besides Rs 2 crore have been released to Sheep Husbandry by GoI for promoting high breed Pashmina goats in the region.
While wrapping up the four day tour, Minister said the Government is committed for the development of Ladakh region and major schemes are on anvil to promote tourism, animal and sheep and fish farming in the region.
The CEC LAHDC Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo thanked the Minister for developmental tour of the region and also appreciated the role of Animal and Sheep Husbandry department in launching various initiatives in the region.
During the tour, Commissioner Secretary, Animal, Sheep Husbandry Department, Director Fisheries, Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir and other Senior Officers of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh and allied departments were accompanied the Minister.
