Kohli appointed as CAT chairman

JAMMU, Mar 24: The Appointment Committee of Union Cabinet has approved appointment of Justice Permod Kohli, former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, as chairman of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for a period of 5 years or 68 years of age, whichever will be earlier.
Born on 01-03-1951 in border town of Rajouri, Justice Permod Kohli after graduation from GGM Science College, Jammu secured degree of Law from University of Jammu in the year 1972. He joined Bar at Jammu and was appointed as Additional Advocate General of the State during Governor’s Rule in the year 1990 and took over as the Advocate General of the State in December 1990. He was designated as Senior Advocate in April 1991 and appeared on constitutional, service and civil matters.
He remained Legal Advisor to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu and conducted a number of important matters in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Supreme Court of India.
He appeared on behalf of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to approve the ban imposed on militant organizations operating in the State as also before State Delimitation Commission. He served as Member, Managing Committee of DAV Society run school, namely Maharaja Hari Singh Agricultural Collegiate School, Nagbani, Jammu and other local schools. He also remained associated with various social organizations and clubs in Jammu.
He was appointed Additional Judge of the High Court of J&K on 07-01-2003 and as Permanent Judge on 03-01-2005 and worked as such up to 28-04-2006. Thereafter, he was transferred to Jharkhand High Court and took oath on 04-05-2006. Later, he was transferred to Punjab and Haryana High Court and took oath on 10.05.2007. He was elevated as Chief Justice of High Court of Sikkim in December 2011 and retired on 28.02.2013.
