JAMMU, Feb 9: Observing its 40th foundation year, the Kisan Sabha has decided to organize series of programmes during the year long celebrations, which began with holding of a Kisan Sammelan at Billawar in January this year.
This was announced by Hari Chand Jalmeria, president of the Kisan Sabha while addressing a press conference, here today. He highlighted the issues of farmers and also announced Jammu and Kashmir Committee of the Sabha.

Stressing that major part of the country’s budget should be spent for all round development of the farmers, who comprise over 75 percent of India’s population, Mr Jalmeria urged the Government to provide integrated facilities to farmers for their production, marketing and procurement centers at Panchayat levels and ensure profitable prices to farmers for all their products.
Stressing for urgent need to promote organic farming and conserving seeds of local varieties , Mr Jalmeria lamented that defective seeds are provided to the farmers causing them huge loss in terms of labor, time and money. ” Insurance companies have taken away crores of rupees from the KCC accounts of farmers which is scandalous as highlighted by farmers before the Sabha,” he alleged and also expressed serious concern over converting of irrigated land to non-agricultural purposes like making banquet halls, shopping malls, colonies, flats etc, which has the potential of creating food crisis in near future.
The Kisan Sabha leader also highlighted the issues of cocoon growers, growers of Medicinal herbs and plants, security of farmers who suffer losses due to firing on borders, natural calamities, reservation to children of farmers in trainings and jobs in Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Mulbary Departments. He also demanded pension of Rs 20 thousand per month to all farmers after 60 years of age.
On the occasion, J&K Committee of the Kisan Sabha was announced with Hari Chand Jalmeria as President), Uday Chand, Dr Ghanisham Singh Charak, Hari Om Singh, Sayed Rafiq Shah, Master Swarn Singh, Balwant Singh, HS Lalotra as Vice Presidents, Dewan Chand as general Secretary, Mohinder Singh Andotra, Ramankant Singh Manhas, Shanker Singh Chib as Secretaries and B S Jamwal as Treasurer.
Joginder Singh , Chuni Lal Mistri, Pt Tek Chand Sapolia, Master Paras Ram, S Hari Singh, Romesh, Ravi Kumar, Rashpal Singh, Manzoor Ahmed Shah, Dharam Singh, Abdul Hi, Ravi Singh, Mulak Raj Sharma are Executive Members of the Sabha.
