NEW DELHI, May 3: Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here and discussed a wide range of current issues.
Bedi gave a resume of several developmental and sanitation activities undertaken by her in Puducherry during the last few months.
She also expressed her concern on the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley as well as Pak-sponsored disturbance on the border.
Kiran Bedi also raised certain issues pertaining to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Dr Jitendra Singh said he will take up the same with the concerned Ministry.
Dr Jitendra Singh told Kiran Bedi that Prime Minister Narendra Modi accords a very high priority to remote regions like Northeast, Jammu & Kashmir and island territories like Puducherry. He said, the focus should be on speedy implementation of a series of pro-poor schemes initiated by the Modi Government and ensuring that the benefit of these schemes reaches the last man.
Dr. Jitendra Singh referred to an earlier proposal from Kiran Bedi for starting a space technology programme at Puducherry. He said, he has conveyed to Chairman ISRO, Prof Kiran Kumar to follow up the same and, if needed, visit Puducherry with his team to explore the possibilities.
Dr Jitendra Singh thanked Kiran Bedi for having spared time to deliver a lecture at Mussoorie’s Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration for Civil Service/ IAS officers and said, the probationers there were particularly inspired to hear her.
Kiran Bedi presented Dr Jitendra Singh with a collection of photographs and documents depicting some of the innovative initiative started by her.
