Kiran Bedi joins BJP, will contest Delhi Assembly polls

NEW DELHI :  In a major boost for the party ahead of  February 7 Delhi Assembly elections, Kiran Bedi, a social activist
and close aide of anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, today joined  the BJP.

Ms Bedi, who had openly been lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, joined the BJP in presence of party national president Amit Shah who also announced that the former IPS officer will contest the upcoming Assembly polls.
The move of Ms Bedi, who was a member of Anna Hazare’s core group alongwith Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, can be a game changer for the BJP in the crucial Delhi polls.       Mr Shah said the seat where the country’s first woman IPS officer will contest from will be decided by the BJP Delhi unit.    “The BJP Delhi unit will be strengthened by her joining. Her creative contribution will help the party in a greater way and  also the government if the party is voted to power,” Mr Shah said at the party national headquarters here.    Ms Bedi joined the BJP dialling a toll-free number established for the party’s nationwide membership drive.    Her presence will be a major boost for the BJP which is  sensing a tough contest from the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party in the Assembly polls.
Her joining also sparked speculations that she might be the  CM if the party comes to power.
