KATHUA, Sept 18: After remaining at large for two days, the Kathua Police late last night achieved a major success after arresting the main accused in September 16 shootout by a faction of truckers Union at Govindsar near, here killing one Excise Department Guard on spot and injuring two others.
The main kingpin of the shootout Kuldeep Singh alias Kingo, son of Harnam Singh of Ward No 8 Kathua and president of Truck Union had managed to escape after the shootout and the police had launched manhunt against him while his four accomplice were arrested on the same day.
SSP Kathua Mohan Lal said that the accused was arrested late last night when he was trying to flee to Punjab by crossing Ravi river.
He said a special team headed by Yogesh Sharma, Additional SP Kathua, Mushim Ahmed, DSP Headquarters, Kathua, SHO, P/S Kathua was constituted by him to investigate the case.
He said police swung into action soon after the incident and four persons involved in the shoot out namely Harbans Singh, S/o Joginder Singh, of Ward No 14 Kathua, Manmohan Singh alias Kawa, son of Harnam Singh of Ward No 8, Kathua, Deepak Raj of Ward No 12 Kathua and Ankush Paral, son of Sohan Lal of W No 8, Kathua were arrested from Govindsar and other parts of the district. However the prime accused Kuldeep Singh was absconding after the incident. His personal bank accounts were freezed and a look out notice was in the process of being issued. Different police teams were constituted to arrest him, he added.
The SSP said the teams raided at Jammu, Pathankote, Kathua and other parts of the State and arrested the accused during the intervening night when he was trying to flee to Punjab via Ravi river.
He said the case FIR No 327/2014 U/S 302, 307, 147, 148, 149, RPC, 3/25 Arms Act stands registered at Police Station Kathua.
