Khumeni Chowk residents demand sumo service

SRINAGAR, Mar 3: The residents living in and around Khumeni Chowk demanded a start of sumo service from Jehangir Chowk to Khumeni Chowk in order to put an end to their daily woes of commuting.
People living in the area, who regularly have to travel to City Centre Lal Chowk, told Excelsior that the buses plying on the road currently consume a lot of their time due to which they do not reach their destinations in time.
The locals alleged that the drivers resort to overloading which causes the commuters immense trouble. “It gets difficult for the male passengers to travel in these buses, not to talk to females folks,” he said.
They said that traffic police stationed near these buses at their boarding spots, act as mute spectators; the bus drivers resort to every type of illegal measure to stuff more and more passengers. “I have time and again reported the issue to the local traffic cops, but they do not do anything,” Aafreen, a local said.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic), City Javaid Ahmad Kaul told Excelsior that stern action will be taken against those who are resorting to violations along the route.
“We will immediately start a drive regarding these issues and make sure that the problems faced by the people are resolved immediately,” he said. Regarding the start of Sumo service on the route, he said that only the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) can take a call on that.
