Srinagar, Apr 1: Three villages of Khrew in Halqa Nagandar in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district are without drinking water facility for last several years and people are forced to fetch water from Public Health Engineering (PHE) tankers.
The inhabitants of these villages said a water reservoir in the area which was lone source for drinking water supply to their houses is defunct since 1990. “Since then, the PHE tankers come to our villages once or twice a week and supply water. We are facing lot of inconvenience but the PHE officials are not showing any interest in making this reservoir functional,” said the local inhabitants.
The village inhabitants further said that they cannot dig a well for the water supply because there areas are highly polluted due to the presence of cement factories and other industrial units. “So, we have only one option and that is to get water from these PHE tanks,” they said.
The inhabitants urged the concerned authorities to immediately take steps for the restoration of the water supply so that the years of hardships come to an end. “We also hope that new government would show interest towards the development of our ignored lot villages,” they added.
