JAMMU, May 25: Ch Nazakat Khatana, president of JKGBY has strongly condemned the Government move of evicting forest land from tribal Gujjars and Bakerwals who have no other option for their habitation.
“Forest Department is responsible for the encroachments and depletion of Forest land whereas the tribal Gujjar-Bakerwals have been protecting these forests since centuries. However, the officials are now throwing out these poor and ignorant Gujjar-Bakerwals by demolishing their houses,” he said in a statement and appealed the Government not to torture these weak and poor tribal people.
Warning violent clashes and protests by the affected Gujjar-Bakerwals if the Government does not stop its demolition drive, Mr Khatana also demanded a probe into illegal occupation of Forest land by rich businessmen and politicians.
