NEW DELHI : Railways Minister M Mallikarjun Kharge today presented an Interim Budget of the Railways seeking to cover the first four months of expenses of the Ministry providing a revised plan outlay of Rs 59,359 crore.
The Budget in the form of Vote of Account provides for 17 new premium, 39 express, 10 passenger, four MEMU and three DEMU trains.
Several UPA Ministers and MPs from Andhra Pradesh were in the Well of the House to protest against the Government’s decision to create Telangana from the State. Textile Minister K S Rao, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi and Minister of State for Commerce D Purandeshwari were in the Well while Human Resource Development Minister M M Pallam Raju stood in his place lending solidarity to the protest.
Mr Kharge said the Railways had become the main instrument in providing the low cost connectivity to the people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Arunachal, Mizoram and Tripura in the East giving unparallel services to the huge mass of population.
Though he had only a eight month stint in the Railways, Mr Kharge said, he was having an inner feeling of life long association. (AGENCIES)
