JAMMU, May 5: BJP has strongly condemned the killing of its leader Gul Mohammed Mir at Nowgam in Verinag area of Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley yesterday.
Terming the killing of Mir as a cowardly act, party’s national vice president & Jammu Kashmir, Prabhari, Avinash Rai Khanna has said that the anti national forces will not succeed in their attempts to terrorize our cadre and lower their morale in the Valley.
In his strong condemnation of the killing, Khanna said that the BJP activists have been risking their lives in Kashmir to strengthen the national forces, which cannot be digested by the anti nationals and hence they are targeting them. He said that the gun cannot silent the voice of nationalist people in Kashmir.
BJP State general secretary (Org) Ashok Koul along with MLCs Surinder Ambardar, Ramesh Arora, State spokesperson Altaf Thakur & Kashmir Media incharge, Manzoor Bhat on Sunday visited the family of slain Gul Mohammad Mir who was brutally killed by unidentified gunmen at his home yesterday to extend their sympathies to the bereaved family.
These leaders while expressing their sympathy to the family, assures full support to them at the time of grief.
Spending nearly one hour with family, Ashok Kaul & other senior leaders of the party along with workers encouraged the family that they will be given justice and his killers cannot hide long and martyrdom of Mir will not go waste.
BJP State general secretary, Yudhvir Sethi and former Minister & BJP spokesperson, Priya Sethi strongly condemned the killing of party’s district vice President, Anantnag, South Kashmir Gul Muhammad Mir who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his home in Nowgam village of Verinag, in Anantnag district last evening.
Yudhvir and Priya in a joint statement termed “the killing as an act of cowardice and said the killing of unarmed political leader is shameful”.
BJP general secretary, Dr Narinder Singh while condemning the killing held the authorities responsible for the same. He said the BJP leader was earlier also attacked and the authorities despite knowing that he is under threat ignored giving protection to him. He said he has received threat calls earlier too and party had given him refuge at its office for some time but authorities ignored this all.
Dr Narinder demanded that Government should take care of the family and Mir’s next kin be given a Government job and ex-gratia immediately. He said that party is solidly with the family and assured that his sacrifice will not go waste.
BJP vice president and MLC, Girdhari Lal Raina has also strongly condemned the killing of his party leader in Anantnag yesterday.
In a statement today he said “I share pain and grief of the family. I also pray for the peace of the departed soul”. He said “gunning down of yet another BJP leader and vice-president of Anantnag district unit is condemnable in strongest words”.
While condemning the killing of BJP leader Ghulam Mohammad Mir, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and former MLC, G N Monga castigated the Government for withdrawing security cover of political leaders in the State.
In a statement issued to press in Srinagar he said the decision to withdraw and curtail security to politicians made them more vulnerable to threats owing to the prevailing security and law and order situation in the State particularly in the Valley.
