Khanday visits flood affected South Kashmir

ANANTNAG, Nov 28: State administration is committed for the rehabilitation of flood affected families and transparent distribution of relief among them and for the purpose various measures have already been taken to provide succor to the flood affected people besides providing temporary shelter sheds.
This was stated by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday during his day long visit to twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam of south Kashmir.
Chief Secretary took stock of the ground situation in these districts. He was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Rohit Kansal, Divisional Heads of R&B, Flood Control and other concerned departments besides including Deputy Commissioner’s of Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
He visited Sarsona, Shamsipora, Shoal and Jablipora villages of Anantnag District and inspected the undergoing work on temporary shelter sheds being constructed by R&B Department. It was revealed during the visit that 172 temporary shelter sheds are being constructed by R&B and different voluntary organizations in different villages of Anantnag district which include Sarsoona, Shamsipora, Shoul, Jablipora, Mirdanter, Janglatmandi and Dehruna. While some of these shelter sheds have already been completed and handed over to affected families, the work on remaining is in full swing.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag revealed that the affected house owners have been provided with the requisite relief under SDRF besides blankets, utensils and other required essentials. He further said that required dumping of ration has been made in the district and there are adequate stocks of essential commodities for the winter season.
Chief Secretary instructed for construction of toilet blocks around the temporary shelter sheds under “Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan” so that better sanitation facilities are provided to the people.
He also visited flood hit Kilam, Chumgund, Aero gatnu, Gund, Zangalpora and Brazloo of Kulgam district and inspected the work being executed on the construction of temporary shelter sheds at these places and protection bunds executed by Flood Control Department.
Chief Secretary also chaired meetings with Deputy Commissioner’s of Anantnag and Kulgam districts and took detailed stock of the distribution of relief material among the flood affected families.
