UDHAMPUR, Nov 17: Surinder Singh Khalsa has been elected as president of Udhampur Beopar Mandal, elections of which were held on Monday after a gap of 30 years.
Not only Surinder Singh Khalsa but his entire team was declared elected thus registering a clean sweep in this prestigious body of Udhampur traders.
In a multi-cornered contest, he defeated his nearest rival Vikram Singh Slathia with a huge margin of 423 votes. In the election, total 1321 votes were polled, out of 1416, while 24 of them were declared invalid.
Vijay Kumar Sharma was elected as senior vice-president, Narinder Kumar as vice president, Anil Basandi as general secretary, Sanjeev Sharma as secretary, Deepanker Gupta as joint secretary cum publicity secretary and Kuldeep Kalsotra as treasurer in the new team.
For the post of president, Suriender Singh Khalsa secured 685 vote while his opponent Vikram Singh Slathia was polled only 262 vote, Jugal Kishore Gupta 137 votes and Kamal Gupta 213 votes.
Similarly, for the post of senior vice president, Vijay Kumar secured 903 votes and he defeated Satish Baria with a margin of 758 votes.
For the post of vice president, Narinder Kumar secured 584 votes and defeated Arun Gupta with a margin of 178 votes.
Candidates of Gen Secretary post Anil Basandi was polled 500 votes and he defeated Pawan Regra with a margin of 107 votes for the post of general secretary. For the post of secretary, Sanjeev Sharma was polled 419 votes and his victory margin over his nearest rival Sanjay Kumar was 92 votes.
Deepanker Gupta secured 579 votes and he defeated Raj Kumar with a margin of 274 votes for the post of joint-cum-publicity secretary. For the post of cashier, Kuldeep Kumar was polled 531 votes and his victory margin over nearest rival Kush Pachyala was 184 votes.
