KGBV Class IV employees seek enhancement in wages

Srinagar, Apr 10: The class fourth employees working in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools across Kashmir valley today staged a protest demanding an increase in their monthly wages.
Several such workers—all women—appeared in the Press Enclave and raised slogans in favour of their demands. The workers said that they have been working in the KGBVs for last more than 12 years and are being paid peanuts.
“We were earlier given Rs 1200 per month and now we are getting Rs 4000 per month. While a labourer earns Rs 600 per day, we are getting Rs 25 a day and that too after working round the clock,” said Umaira hailing from Bandipora.
The workers said that the teachers working in the KGBVs have been confirmed by the authorities and that they were told that after the teachers, they will also be declared as permanent employees. “But nothing has been done in that direction,” they said.
The workers appealed to the administration to address their issues without any further delay. “We have been knocking at the doors of the higher-ups, but nobody is interested in listening to us. We appeal the LG Manoj Sinha to kindly resolve our issues,” the workers appealed.
