Kashmir Chamber of Commerce has expressed its concern about reducing the supply quota of kerosene to the Valley. It has lodged a complaint with the authorities and has appealed the Prime Minister to repeat the order of reducing the quota. The fact of the matter is that this is the peak of winter season in Kashmir and the cold and frost are at its height. Electric power supply is already in shambles after the devastating floods. LPG intermittently runs into shortage owing to disruption of traffic on the National Highway. It is unjust and unreasonable to impose cut on the quantity of kerosene supplied to the Valley at this particular point of time when people are struggling for energy to keep homes warm and to cook the food. We don’t think it is a rational decision to impose cut on kerosene at this point of time. As such we strongly recommend to the Ministry of Civil Supplies to reconsider its decision and release full quota of kerosene to the Valley at this time when winter is at its peak. People need relief and not frustration owing to shortage of fuel.
