SRINAGAR, Aug 17: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) today strongly condemned the recent changes to the parking policy at Srinagar Airport, calling them “arbitrary” and a source of “inconvenience and harassment” for tourists, travelers and locals alike.
In a Statement issued here, KCCI urged the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to reconsider the “undesirable” new vehicle entry and parking system.
The trade body said that during a recent meeting, it discussed the issue with the Director of AAI, highlighting the “arbitrary charges and harassment caused to commercial as well as private vehicles.”
Despite assurances, KCCI said that the situation has only worsened, with “numerous complaints from commercial operators as well as private travelers against the unjustified and arbitrary charges being forcibly recovered.”
The KCCI reiterated its demand for the immediate removal of the newly installed toll post, citing the “un-called-for long wait and traffic jam” that it claims are tarnishing the region’s reputation.
The organization further argued that the policy contradicts the principle of “One Nation, One Policy” and questioned, why and under what circumstances the toll post has been put in place is baffling.
KCCI warned that if the policy is not revoked and the previous system restored, it will be seen as a “Kashmir Entry Cess” and urged for a resolution “at the earliest.”
“The KCCI demands that the newly introduced policy be forthwith withdrawn and the policy that existed previously restored at the earliest,” the statement read.
