SRINAGAR, Jan 27: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of the telecommunication prevailing in the Valley since devastating floods in September last year.
An executive committee meeting of the KCCI was held under the chairmanship of its senior vice president Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, who while speaking stated that the issue having been reported to the authorities repeatedly the condition remained unchanged.
He added that the paralyzed telephone landlines and mobile are causing   inexplicable problems in the conduct of daily business in the market places as also in day-to-day common life.
“The landlines in Lal Chowk, Raj Bagh, Jawahar Nagar, Buchwara Dalgate, Indra Nagar and other connected areas of the Srinagar City are either fully dead or working intermittently more to irritate than to facilitate the business”, Wani said.
The major telephone operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has failed to revive the system effectively, he said, adding that the private telecom operators like Airtel, Aircel, Reliance and Vodafone are continuously failing to provide un-interrupted smooth telecom service to its users.
“Due to frequent failure of the system repeated calling and call disconnect cause inflation of bills which adds to the loss of time and money of the user.  It has been noted with astonishment that the damages caused by flood has become somewhat like eternal excuse with the telecom services operators for their failure to rehabilitate the system. As the fast and flawless telecom service is inevitable for smooth daily business transactions and movement of materials plus security in all walks of life”, he added.
Wani urge the concerned authorities including the Union Telecom Minister to address the issues and restore the functioning of telecommunication so as to help and avoid loss of crores worth business and continued inconvenience to the common user.
KCCI has also decided to take up the issue with the Union Telecom Minister and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directly also, he added.
