Srinagar, Mar  24: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry today expressed concern over the unabated rise in airfares to Srinagar from Jammu and other parts of the country.
In a statement issued here, the KCCI said the situation arising out of the unabated rise in airfares has been noted with concern at the Chamber. “The Chamber has for a long time repeatedly brought to the notice of the authorities at the Centre and State Government that the valley does not have the direct railway connectivity with rest of the Country; Jammu-Kashmir highway road conditions are also more often unpredictable due to inclement weather conditions through long winters,” it said.
The KCCI said there are large number of businessmen doing their business in different parts of the country, students seeking education in different institutes and seriously ailing patients referred for medical treatment outside the State are, therefore, dependent on the air travel.
“The exorbitant unrealistic airfares are back breaking for them as it brings the misery to people thus in need. The Chamber therefore, would impress upon the authorities to look into the matter seriously not only to see that the airfares are restricted to a reasonable limit but also to find out the cause for the sudden hike in the fare on this route for no apparent reason,” the KCCI while urging the Government added.
