NEW DELHI, Apr 9: Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Kavinder Gupta released Dr. Ashish Kaul’s new book ‘1967: The Parmeshwari Agitation of Kashmir’.
A handout stated that in 1967, a 16-year-old girl disappeared from Rainawari, Srinagar. No threatening call was there and no letter but the devastating silence of a daughter who never returned home ignited a firestorm triggering the Parmeshwari Agitation which shook the corridors of Indian Parliament and brought Kashmir to a grinding halt.
“Over 5,000 Kashmiri Pandits were arrested, dozens killed and hundreds injured. It was an unprecedented display of courage by a minority community united by grief, fury and an unshakeable demand for justice,” said Dr. Kaul adding: “The then Home Minister of India personally travelled to Kashmir to sabotage the agitation and false promises were made to return the girl but Parmeshwari never came home.”
Foreword of the book has been written by distinguished litterateur, educationist and Member Secretary of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi and the book has been published by Prabhat Prakashan.
This is Dr. Kaul’s 6th work on Kashmir.
