KATRA, Feb 25: Residents of Katra on Saturday staged a demonstration against the proposed Gondola project at the shrine of Shri Mata Vaihsno Devi, stating that the shrine board didn’t consult them before starting the project.
The agitating locals claimed that the proposed project will adversely impact their businesses, including pony-pitthuwaalas and transportation. They claim the Shrine Board is trying to diminish the business of Katra.
Pertinently, Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES) has opened the bids of the project, which will employ a gondola cable car system to decrease the journey time for pilgrims from 5-6 hours to just six minutes.
The project will begin at Tarakote and end at Sanjichat near the temple, and is expected to be completed within three years.
The protestors have warned of a strong agitation, if their demands are not met.
