KATRA, May 1: Setting up of Covid care centres/ wellness centres for suspected COVID-19 cases at various hotels and Dharamshalas of Katra triggered protest by the inhabitants of the area.
Shouting slogans, residents of Katra this afternoon staged protest over establishing COVID care centres in the residential area.
The protestors alleged that it was completely failure on part of the administration and the lives of many have been put into risk with setting up of quarantine centres for outsiders in residential area. “It becomes difficult for us to move out of house to buy essential item . There is grave risk to our lives,” they said and demanded immediate shifting of the isolation ward in an isolation place or outside the city.
The protestors said that only locals should be quarantine in Katra. However, we have come to know that suspects from outside the district are also put up here for quarantine. This is simply putting our lives on risk. We also request administration to use isolation centres which are outside the city,” they added.
Locals also alleged that some people quarantine here, were found roaming freely in the Katra market purchasing fruit and other items even as the administration rejected such claims.
Meanwhile officers of police and civil administration rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors . They also assured them to redress their problem at the earliest.
