Kathua resident arrested with 22 kgs poppy straw

RAMBAN, Dec 28: Police arrested a resident of Kathua district along with 22 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, a team from Ramban Police Station this afternoon established a surprise naka near Shan Palace to check the vehicles.
During checking a truck (JK02V-7568) on its way from Kashmir was signalled to stop for checking, but the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to run away, but the alert cops chased the vehicle and stopped it at a little distance.
During thorough search, poppy straw packed in 44 poly carry bags weighing about 22 kg was recovered from the spare tyre of the vehicle, which is the new modus operandi for transporting the narcotics.
The drug peddler identified as Sandeep Kumar, son of Davinder Kumar, resident of Rajbagh, District Kathua was taken into custody.
A case under FIR Number 205/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Ramban Inspector Vijay Kotwal made the arrest under supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Asgar Malik, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
