JAMMU, Apr 4: Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in association with Global Management Centre, California State University San Bernardino, USA and in collaboration with ICccR and HRM, organized a students’ workshop on “Doing Business Internationally: Asia vs Europe”.
Prof Vipin Gupta, an alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, Professor of International Management at the College of Business and Public Administration, and Co-Director of Global Management Centre, California State University-San Bernardino, was the facilitator for the workshop.
In his presentation, Prof Vipin elaborated on the new form of branding of countries on the basis of ecological, social and economic sustainability. He contrasted the management styles of China vis-a vis India and critically examined the transfer of business models across regions as a challenge.
The workshop sessions were categorically divided into student presentations with focus on Chinese, French, German and UAE business models.
To maintain the interactive character of the workshop, the students of Kathua Campus and MBA-IB were divided into various groups and each group was assigned one nation to represent. The sessions sought to bring out the differences that prevail among the Middle-east, Asian and European way of doing business could be evaluated upon.
In the pre lunch session, Prof Vipin Gupta being an eminent researcher and recipient of coveted “Scott M Myers award for applied research-2005” for his leadership in influential 62-Society Globe Research, shared his research experiences and gave a unique expression to Chinese businesses where “the Confucian mandate of heavens” is still alive. He emphasized upon the importance of cultural similarities and exemplified this by drawing out common practices across Japan and India that date back to Vedic period.
The post lunch sessions focused on German, Middle East and French business systems. Earlier in the inaugural session Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Rector Kathua campus and Director ICccR and HRM, University of Jammu, said that workshop theme was contemporary in nature and the same would serve its purpose towards educating and training the participating students in international and cultural considerations in managing organizations and the business.
Prof Rohmetra said that the purpose of the workshop was to understand how future business managers in Jammu may participate in and facilitate promotion of International business and exchange opportunities in Asia and Europe.
Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs and Prof B C Sharma, Dean Student Placement, JU, also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the effort that has gone into organizing this activity of international quality and character.
The closing session was chaired by Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar Vice chancellor JU, who was also the chief guest on the occasion. He congratulated the Kathua Campus and the International Centre for having conceived of organizing the business workshop for the purpose of facilitating development in management students for handling international exchange and negotiation opportunities.
Prof Ishar also presented certificates to the participating students. He also awarded prizes for the best country presentations and best product concepts for International Business incorporating distinctive strengthening of Jammu and Kashmir.
