JAMMU, June 15: While year 2020 will be remembered as a year of lockdowns, home isolations and working remotely, the first half of year 2021 has been disastrous for India and has impacted all in some way or form.
An alumnus of Jammu University, Arvind Mattoo, presently in Florida US decided to step in and work to send relief material to his homeland and more specifically to the city of Jammu. It was just when the news of a massive second wave hit North America, he realized that the day will not be far when this infection will reach other parts of India and more specifically Jammu, a city which has always been close to his heart.
Koshur Raag of which Mattoo is a founding member cancelled their immediate programs and events, in mid-April and issued a call for fund raising so that Oxygen concentrators could be sent to various COVID relief organizations in Jammu and other parts of India such as Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida and Gurugram regions, at the earliest.
These tactical decisions helped Koshur Raag to be one of the first organizations from USA to send Oxygen concentrators to India and start providing relief to the COVID patients at a time when Oxygen scarcity was at its peak.
Koshur Raag was able to provide Oxygen concentrators to 9 different organizations that included, KMECT – Kashmiri Medical Emergency and Charitable Trust (Jammu and NCR region), Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra, Bhagwaan Gopinath Trust, Mata Kheer Bhawani Peeth, Sharika Volunteers, Zaara Initiative, Swami NandLal Hospital, Kallpoosh Foundation and Shanti Manas Foundation.
After stepping in the Koshur Raag raised enough resources for supporting these organizations in India, thus providing COVID relief to hundreds of patients in Jammu and Delhi areas.
Koshur Raag goals are, to inspire, promote, and support underserved artists by providing them encouragement, resources, and opportunities to learn and showcase their talent while augmenting their skills, provide life enrichment to the larger community through the Koshur Raag platform while also serving as custodians of the Kashmiri Pandit cultural heritage and identity through music and related arts, and become a medium for educating the American and the world population about Kashmiri Pandit culture, traditions, heritage and history.
