Kashmir’s accession with India settled issue: Panun Kashmir

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 8: Outright rejecting the demands for grant of greater autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, Panun Kashmir (PK) today said that the accession of the State with the Union of India is a “settled issue ’’.
“Accession of the State with the Union of India is a settled issue and events unfolding after 1971 Indo-Pak War and Shimla Agreement have buried once for all the demands for the Independence and autonomy ,” president, Panun Kashmir, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo along with national spokesperson of the organization Virender Raina told reporters here.
“Both autonomy and pre-1953 status are fundamentally retrogressive steps aimed at taking the State to the medieval times,” Chrungoo said.
He said the policy, formulated by the State Government and the Centre two year back for the rehabilitation of surrendered terrorists, is “highly flawed” and fraught with dangerous consequences.
“There seem to be no checks and balances and no coordination between various security agencies dealing with the situation”, Chrungoo said.
He said there are reports that surrendered militants have once again gone under ground and there is every likelihood that they might have gone back to Pakistan for advanced training.
He said the silence of the Government of India on the issue is intriguing and is tantamount to its policy failure which reminds one of the release of 77 dreaded terrorists in Kashmir in 1989 that was followed by a steep rise in terrorism and an explosive situation ensued thereafter. The issue of so-called rehabilitation policy should be viewed in the larger context of Kashmir issue, he added.
The recent killing of Panchs and Sarpanchs and attacks on the security forces can be a direct result of this “skewed” policy, the Panun Kashmir chief said.
Prof M L Raina, chairman Political Affairs Committee was also present in the press conference.
