Kashmiri researcher brings laurels to State

Srinagar, May 26: American based Association of Research for Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) has designated the research of Kashmiri researcher, Dr Muneeb Faiq, as one of the newest and most innovative research presented in their annual conference held in Washington.
“Dr Muneeb presented his research work in an international conference held in Seattle, Washington. His research was aimed at identifying novel and effective treatment for a disease called Primary Congenital Glaucoma; a leading causes of irreversible childhood blindness worldwide,” said the statement of ARVO.
In the light of the research study done by Dr Faiq, effective treatment to this malady may be a reality in near future. Muneeb Faiq and his group working at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi carried out a series of experiments identifying important set of genes that can be targeted for effective therapy, it said.
“They have also found the potential compounds that can be used as drugs to treat these children. The so identified different compounds in various combinations and permutations can be a great hope for an effective therapy and a way to rescue vision in these children. He has been bestowed with the International Affiliate Award for this work,” the statement added.
