Kashmiri migrants’ express concern over non delivery of ration

JAMMU, May 6: Joint Migrant Welfare Committee has criticised the Government for stopping the ration of the displaced people from Valley since March this year.
In a statement issued here, today the Committee said that the migrants have been denied the ration of March and April this year which has led to lot of problems especially to those families who are totally dependent on Government support as having no other source of income to make their both ends meet.
The statement said Kashmiri migrants could not receive ration for the months of March and April so far. It said the two time meals of migrants are dependent on this ration .Its delay puts financial burden on those migrants living below poverty line to purchase rice from market on market rates. The Committee said the Relief Commissioner should have looked into this issue as to why ration of March and April was not released so for. Steps should have been taken to release the ration of March and April so that the people get rid of this problem. The Relief organisation has not taken any step in this direction as it’s callousness has led to sufferings of poor migrants as they have to spend a portion of the cash relief on purchase of ration.
The Committee also criticised the Relief organisation who asked migrants to get ration from the ration depots which are not in their locality.
This decision of Relief Commissioner is cumbersome and illogical. The Committee demanded immediate reversal of the decision.
