JAMMU, Sept 21: Kashmira Vahini (KV) Executive Body which met here today resolved to work for the revival of age old civilization and culture of Kashmir by celebrating the religious festivals Kashmiri Hindus as per tradition.
Addressing the meeting Dr Khema Kaul, national spokesperson of KV threw light on various Hindu festivals and rituals of Kashmir in general and the forthcoming Vitasta Triyodashi – the birthday of Kashmir’s river goddess Vitasta in particular. Quoting from the scriptures, she said the river goddess Vitasta is the incarnation of goddess Uma the concert of Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of our Homeland Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering cultural secretary of KV Ms Nirmala Tickoo laid emphasis on clinging to the age-old memory of civilizational symbols,festivals and rituals of Kashmiri Hindus that have assumed new existential dimensions during the exile.
The meeting which was chaired by Ms Vijaya Khoda resolved to redouble its efforts to inculcate and preserve the sense of pride of Kashmiri art, culture, language and identity among the community in general and youngsters in particular. She said Kashmira Vahini will organise seminars conferences and massive membership drives.
The meeting said the Vitasta Diwas (Vitasta Tryodeshi) falling on September 28 will also be celebrated by KV with traditional fervour and gaiety this year at Rajinder Park as usual.
In the meeting which was also overwhelmingly attended by other eminent social activists of the community, Ms Gaytri Hashia and Meenakshi Sidha where nominated as the Cordinators of the Vitasta Diwas celebrations.
