Kashmir youth on Army tour see job potential outside valley

KOLKATA, Mar 3: In a Sadbhavna tour with a difference, 20 Kashmiri youths and aspiring apprentice drivers from Sopore, are here in the region on a fortnight-long tour organised by the army.

Apart from sight-seeing, thay had a look at possible job opportunities in their chosen vocation outside Kashmir Valley. The group, comprising some who are already driving commercial SUVs for a living and few others who are learning to drive for similar livelihood, today interacted with Chief of Eastern Army Command Lt Gen MMS Rai in Fort William.

Gen Rai reminded the visitors that Kashmiri youths are at the crossroads of life, where they can easily be misguided and need to choose the right path.

He said such tours (by the Army) will give exposure to the youth and show them the right way forward after they have seen for themselves development elsewhere in the country as a result of enduring peace.

For long, the Indian Army has been taking groups of children and in some instances, elderly citizens from Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East to major cities to see the kaleidoscope of progress of the nation under Operation Sadbhavna and Samaritan initiatives, respectively.

The ongoing ‘Educational-cum-Auto Tech Awareness Tour’ for the young drivers is aimed at enhancing their awareness threshold on preventive maintenance, repair and upkeep of vehicles, enabling them to gain proficiency in their profession.

The team visited Tata Motors, Jamshedpur, earlier and will also visit Hindustan Motors facilities, apart from other landmark venues in the city. (UNI)
