Kashmir youth and militancy

Common belief among experts on terrorism especially among the youth is that they are lured to militancy because they are unemployed and restive. This is the easiest argument to give a patronizing slant to the phenomenon of the youth lured to militancy syndrome. The moot point can be and should be debated and dragged to the public domain so that we are able to understand what actually lies under motivation of joining the militant groups.
In a written reply the Chief Minister, who is also holding the charge of the Home Department said that 280 youths have joined militancy of their ideological views and predilections. Some cogent points can be touched upon. If the claim of the Government is true that during past many years thousands or even lakhs of youth have been provided with employment or training in various skills, bank loans to run their self employed projects and so many other incentives, how come that there is no impact of these incentives on the youth. Secondly, has the Government ordered any survey about causes and circumstances which influence the youth irrespective of their financial stability to give up a promising career and take to gun wielding?  Such a study falls in the realm of social study and would best be taken up by the NGOs with social service as their agenda. We have seen that wards of affluent families too are among the youth who opt for militancy. Why is it so? Our study shows that there could be combination of multiple reasons but the foremost is the indoctrination to which the youth are subjected on family level, on social level and on political level. It is for the parents, the teachers, the politicians and mentors to pull these youths out of the syndrome of victimhood and make them live a life of independent thinking and action. Nothing else will put an end to their voluntary or involuntary propensity for militancy.
