Kashmir Unrest: About 50 people injured in fresh clashes

SRINAGAR: About 50 people, half of them security force personnel, including a senior CRPF officer, were injured in fresh clashes in the Kashmir Valley, where life remained crippled for the 24th day today due to curfew, restrictions and strike.

A police spokesman this evening that 25 security personnel, including a CRPF Company Commander, were injured in the stone pelting in the Valley. He said the situation throughout Kashmir remained under control.

However, there were 15 incidents in Ganderbal, Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora. During these law and order situations 25 police and security force personnel including a CRPF Coy Commander were injured. The CRPF Coy Commander suffered serious injury in his face.

As a precautionary measure curfew and restrictions were put in place in police stations of North zone Srinagar and Anantnag town. However, official sources said security forces resorted to firing, fired pellets and burst teargas shells at dozens of places in the Kashmir Valley.

About 30 people were injured, including half a dozen received pellet injuries while one woman was hit by a teargas shell in Kupwara. (AGENCIES)
