Kashmir highway through for one-way despite rain

SRINAGAR:
National highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for one-way traffic despite rain from this afternoon.
However, the Mughal road, connecting south Kashmir with Jammu region and the Srinagar-Leh national highway remained closed though snow clearance operation was going on in full swing.
Official sources told reporters that the highway was through for one-way. There were minor landslides which were later cleared by the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
They said road widening work at some places where only one vehicle could pass, has been hampered due to fresh rains as there was threat of shooting stones.
“We are planning to put through the highway for two-way once the repair and road widening work is done,” they said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying essentials, particularly vegetables, which left Jammu this morning, are on way to Srinagar. Down convoy from Srinagar to Jammu will ply tomorrow subject to road condition, they said and appealed to drivers and passengers to contact Traffic Control Rooms (TRCs) before starting the journey on the highway.
