Kashmir highway put through, pilgrims vehicles allowed to move first

SRINAGAR:Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country,  has been restored after the landslides, triggered by rains, were removed this afternoon.
However, vehicles carrying pilgrims from Jammu to Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps were allowed to move first, official sources told UNI.
He said later other vehicles, stranded on the highway since this morning, will be allowed to move towards their respective destinations after yatra vehicles crossed the damaged portion.      The highway was closed due to landslides and mudslides at Seeri, Ramban and Gandroo as a result of which hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying Amarnath pilgrims from both sides were stranded.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway again.
However, traffic on historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir and Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was normal while the highway connecting the Ladakh region with Kashmir was also through. (UNI)
