JAMMU, Feb 20:  Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra today called on Union Health Minister (HM), J P Nadda seeking his intervention in dealing with the swine flu outbreak in Jammu and Kashmir which has already claimed four lives in the State with around 100 testing positive for the disease.
In a statement issued here, Karra said that he urged the Union Health Minister that besides ensuring adequate availability of medicines and vaccines, the Union Health Ministry should help the State Government to immediately setup testing facilities for H1N1 virus in various hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Mr Nadda was informed that as there is only one testing facility available in the State at SKIMS Soura, the same is proving inadequate to deal with the crisis given the mounting number of patients,” the statement said adding that the Union Health Ministry was requested to facilitate setting up of testing facilities for H1N1 influenza at SMHS, Lal Ded, Chest Diseases Hospital and GMC Jammu.
It said the Union Health Minister was also requested to ensure that adequate supply of medicines and vaccines are rushed to J&K to deal with the situation arising out of the outbreak of the deadly disease.
