SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra has expressed concern over the acute scarcity of ration and deteriorating power supply across Kashmir Valley.
In a statement issued here today, Mr Karra said that people are facing immense problems due to lack of rations at many places and the landless and flood-affected families both in rural and urban areas have to suffer more because of the Government’s callousness.
Mr Karra said PDP has brought this problem to the notice of Central Government and apprised the concerned Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan of the problems being faced by the people due to scaling down of ration quota to consumers in J&K, adding that numerous families have been pushed to starvation in many areas.
Mr Karra said the State Government should pursue the matter with the Government of India to ensure timely and adequate supply of ration to the people who are at the verge of starvation.
Expressing dismay over the deteriorating power supply across Kashmir, Karra said the coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah has left the State in a mess as the power supply has hit the worst levels since 2002.
“While power tariff has been hiked manifold by the NC-Congress coalition regime, the supply has deteriorated in the Valley to the frustrating levels,” Karra said, adding the tariff has been raised five times during the past five years and the Government has been making claims of having charged hundreds of crores of rupees as water usage fee from NHPC and JKSPDC. Karra further said, in spite of this, the actual delivery of power to the consumer has hit the lowest level in the past one decade.
