SRINAGAR, Mar 31: Accusing the National Conference of acting as collaborator in the Gujarat massacre of 2002, the senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former Finance Minister, Tariq Hameed Karra said NC sided with NDA Government during the censure motion in the Parliament by abstaining from the House.
Addressing party workers in Shivpora, Karra said while the Gujarat riots are rightly condemned by everybody but NC too attracts hatred and anger against it for its collaboration in these riots and its own repression, atrocities on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said as the latest media reports say even the probe ordered into some of the 2010 killings has turned out to be a complete eyewash while all other killings were not investigated.
“Whether or not the NC is right now in alliance with the BJP, the crimes committed by that party against the people of Kashmir place it among the worst political Government any place in the world has experienced,” said Karra.
“By shelving probe into the civilian killings of 2010, which the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah supervised, shows the Government’s non-seriousness in punishing the guilty,” he said.
He said during the Gujarat carnage neither Omar Abdullah left his junior Ministry job in the Vajpayee Government nor did NC part ways with the NDA. “Such was the height of love affair even Dr Farooq Abdullah went on to defend then Modi’s Government in Gujarat at that time,” he added.
He said NC deliberately kept mum over the issue only because it didn’t want to lose job of Omar Abdullah in the NDA Government as it is the power which has always been dear to the party than any other than thing.
Karra said height of intolerance and lust for power was that the NC threw out its senior colleague, Saif-u-Din Soz from the party fold when he acted according to his conscience and voted against the Vajpayee Government in the Parliament.
