SRINAGAR : The border town of Kargil in Ladakh region and the world famous health resort of Pahalgam recorded the coldest nights of the season so far after the mercury dipped and settled at minus 6.1 degree Celsius and minus 3.3 degree respectively.
Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh region was the coldest place in the state after the mercury dipped considerably and settled at minus 7.1 degree, against minus 0.1 recorded yesterday. The coldest night of the season in Leh so far was recorded on November 8 after mercury settled at minus 7.8 degree.
A Met department spokesperson said weather will remain dry in all the three regions, Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh regions, during the next four days.
He said the night temperature further dipped in Kargil and settled at minus 6.1 degree, recording the coldest night of the season so far. Yesterday, the temperature recorded in this border town was minus 5.5 degree.
There was a considerable dip in the night temperature at Pahalgam as the world famous health resort witnessed a plunge of 3 degrees, recording the coldest night of the season so far. Against minus 0.3 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 3.3 degree, more than two notches less than normal.
There was a slight dip in the night temperature in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg as the mercury dipped and settled at minus 4.2 degree, against minus 3.8 degree recorded yesterday. The temperature recorded in this ski resort was over three degree less than normal.
People in the summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to a sunny morning though the weather was still chilly due to icy cold winds. The summer capital also witnessed a dip and recorded a below normal night temperature. Against 2.8 degree recorded yesterday, it was 0.6 degree.
The spokesperson said the night temperature in Quazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, also witnessed a dip. Against 4 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature was 0.7 degrees.
Another health resort of Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir also witnessed a dip in the night temperatures. Kokergan recorded 2.7 degrees; against 5.2 degrees while Kupwara witnessed 0.8 degree, against 1.6 degrees. (UNI)
