Kargil leaders threaten mass agitation

JAMMU, Feb 9: Cutting across party lines, prominent politicians from Kargil district today threatened mass agitation if the Governor Administration did not review its decision to permanently post the Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Police (IGP) headquarters in Leh.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, the leaders including Chairman Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Feroz Khan and former MLA Haji Asgar Ali Karbalia said that Divisional Status was the long pending demand of people of Kargil (Ladakh) and people of Leh never demanded Divisional status but this Government has completely sidelined the people of Kargil and ignored their demand while deciding the location of Headquarter for the Ladakh Division, which has completely demoralized the people of Kargil.
The leaders condemned the decision and requested the Governor Satya Pal Malik to review the decision and should make the Headquarter on rotational basis six month of summer in Kargil and six month of Winter in Leh.
They said it was unanimously decided by all political leaders of Kargil that mass and sustained agitations and protests would be organized at Kargil, Jammu and New Delhi to highlight the injustice meted out to Kargil and its people, while deciding the location of Headquarter and make the Government to review its decision thereof. These agitations would be collectively organized by all political, religious and social institutions/organizations of Kargil district, they added.
The leaders further said that soon they would frame a co-ordination committee comprising of all senior leaders and district presidents of all political parties of District Kargil to facilitate the entire process of agitation.
Chairman, J&K Legislative Council and MLC Kargil Haji Anayat Ali called the decision an action taken in haste and requested the Governor to review the decision in view of the aspirations of the people and ensure equitable distribution of infrastructure of the said Division as per the wishes of the people and requirements in the region.
Executive Councillor Zakir Hussain, former Minister Qamar Ali Akhone, former MLA and CEC Haji Asgar Ali Karbalia, former MLA Haji Nissar Ali, former CEC Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, former MP Ghulam Hassan Khan, president NC and former CEC Haji Hanifa Jan, former Minister Haji Qamar Ali Akhone, EC, LAHDC Kargil Zakir Hussain, EC, LAHDC Kargil, Tashi Phuntsoq, Assadullah Munshi, district youth president, PDP, Kargil, besides other leaders of NC, PDP and BJP were also present.
Meanwhile, Religious Organization Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust raised their objection during a press conference alleging that Governor Administration is trying to act on the direction of BJP to make pave for 2019 election and told that the organization will fight upto any extent for getting the due share of the people of Ladakh equally and will try to bring all sections of the society on one platform to raise the issue.
