This has reference to the news item’ DM approves Rs 40 cr for Kargil airbase’ DE Jan 25.
An airstrip at Kargil is a welcome development. Non existence of airbase in this remote region is the main reason for this portion of the State, to remain inaccessible during winters. The people here had been devanding expansion of the existing airstrip to allow big planes land here easily. It was after a long struggle that this demand has been conceded by the concerned authorities.
The airbase will also help arm authorities to operate air services from here. Otherwise, they had to depend on Leh airport which now remains crowded as many airlines operators run their services here.
The airbase will certainly usher an era of development and progress in this neglected and backward region.
