JAMMU, Nov 8: All J&K Transport Welfare Association (AJKTWA) Chairman, Karan Singh Wazir reaffirming his commitment to uphold and champion the rights of transporters and operators across JKUT, while emulating the principles and dedication of his Late father, TS Wazir, declared that he would vow to prioritize the issues of transporters and work in close collaboration with the other Trade and Industries associations along with the High Court Bar Association to ensure welfare of the people.
While talking to media persons here today, Wazir articulated his vision to unite all unions and group members of the transport sector, fostering a sense of solidarity and resilience. “The welfare of our transport community lies in our unity,” he emphasized, adding that his primary objective is to work cohesively with all stakeholders for the collective benefit of the transporters community.
Accompanied by leaders and office-bearers from various transport unions and associations, Karan Singh spoke on the challenging realities faced by transporters, describing how vested interests had previously disrupted the transporters’ agenda. Reflecting on his introductory meeting with transporters on Thursday, Wazir shared that the purpose of the gathering was to bring the transporters together to discuss their ongoing challenges and chart out a comprehensive plan for addressing these with the relevant Government authorities.
Despite the constructive objectives of the initial meeting held at Ware House in Jammu, it was marred by disruption.
Vijay Singh Chib, president of the Association, revealed that a group of individuals, reportedly aligned with a former Chairman, attempted to derail the proceedings and intimidate participants. “These actions jeopardized the safety of our members and attempted to fracture the solidarity we’ve worked to build,” Chib remarked.
Highlighting the gravity of the disruption, the All J&K Transport Welfare Association has called for immediate legal action against those involved, including the former chairman and armed participants, to prevent any recurrence and safeguard future initiatives.
“The Late Wazir’s work to bridge divides within the transport community continues in Karan’s leadership, ensuring a legacy of cohesion and purpose,” Chib added.
Today’s meeting focused on e-Rickshaw registration issue, rotation and proper supervision of e-buses plying on various routes, Toll Tax discrepancies, existing contract carriage rules, e-challans and unexpected penalties and inter-state traffic violations.
Wazir expressed confidence that, with the support of transporters and allied organizations, the All J&K Transport Welfare Association could effect meaningful change in the transportation industry in J&K. By working closely with the JCCI and the High Court Bar Association, he plans to build a powerful coalition that will represent the interests of transporters at the highest levels of Government. He assured to take up the issues with Transport Commissioner and the Transport Minister.
